Odisha CM Majhi Announces Rs 6,000 Cr Berhampur–Jeypore Highway, 45,000 Teacher Posts

Berhampur, Odisha: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has unveiled a series of ambitious development and education initiatives during the 42nd annual function of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir at Nilakantha Nagar, Berhampur.

The highlight of his address was the announcement of a Rs 6,000 crore sixRs lane Berhampur–Jeypore highway project, aimed at transforming connectivity across southern Odisha.

In addition, the government will construct 10 major roads in Berhampur and nearby areas at a cost of Rs 52.17 crore, easing traffic and boosting infrastructure.

Majhi also revealed plans to develop Greater Berhampur City, directing officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

To ensure organised urban growth, Town Planning Schemes are being implemented, with two already in progress.

The CM further announced the creation of Food Streets under the Berhampur Municipal Corporation to showcase the city’s culinary heritage.

On the education front, Majhi emphasised reforms under the National Education Policy 2020.

He launched the Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School Scheme, promising one school in each panchayat, with 2,200 schools approved in the first phase.

The government will also merge secondary and higher secondary boards, create 45,000 new teacher posts within three years, and provide free textbooks up to Class X from the next academic year.

A record Rs1,000 crore allocation for primary education underscores the state’s commitment to quality learning.

Majhi’s speech was marked by personal reflections on his teaching career, describing Saraswati Vidya Mandir visits as “like returning home.” Tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, freedom fighter Mohan Nayak, and social worker Sibaram Mahapatra.

The event was attended by ministers, MLAs, RSS leaders, district officials, and school management members.
