Odisha CM Launches Textile Park and Data Centre in Keonjhar

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stones for two landmark projects in Keonjhar on Friday — a Rs 100 crore textile park and a Rs 187 crore disaster recovery and data centre.

The ceremony, held at Dharanidhar University campus, marks a significant step toward diversifying Keonjhar’s economy beyond mining and steel.

The textile park is expected to generate 1,200 jobs, with a strong focus on youth and women’s employment. Hindalco will establish a garment unit on seven acres of land, producing 24 lakh garments annually.

This initiative builds on the momentum from the O-Tex Textile Conclave held in July 2025, where 33 MoUs worth Rs 7,800 crore were signed, promising 53,000 jobs across Odisha.

Dedicated textile parks are also planned in Sambalpur, Balangir, Ganjam, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Bhadrak.

The disaster recovery and data centre, developed by the Electronics and IT Department through OCAC, will serve as a backup to the state data centre in Bhubaneswar.

It will ensure the uninterrupted delivery of over 400 online government services during disasters or cyber threats. Keonjhar was chosen for its low seismic risk, making it an ideal location for such critical infrastructure.

Highlighting Odisha’s broader development push, the Chief Minister noted recent investments of Rs 312 crore in temple development and Rs 1,900 crore worth of projects launched during the Makar festival.

He emphasised that industrial growth and digital strength will drive Odisha’s journey toward becoming a developed state within a developed India.
