Odisha CM Launches Bhubaneswar–Jharsuguda Flights to Boost Regional Growth

Bhubaneswar, 16th August (OT Webdesk) – In a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity and promoting inclusive growth, the Government of Odisha has launched direct flight services between Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda under the State’s innovative B-MAAN (Building and Management of Aviation Assets and Network) scheme.

This service, operated by Star Air using a 76-seater aircraft, is a key initiative of Odisha’s New Destination Policy, aimed at strengthening air links within the State and boosting economic opportunities. Flights will operate every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with daily flights scheduled to begin on 24th August 2025.

The inaugural flight was flagged off by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi from Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar.

During the event, the Chief Minister emphasised that this milestone will not only bring western Odisha closer to the State capital but will also significantly promote industrial growth, tourism, and cultural exchange. The launch of this route is expected to enhance regional air connectivity, reduce travel distances within the State, and create an inclusive and accessible aviation infrastructure for all segments of society.

This initiative is poised to be a major driver of industrial development, tourism promotion, and socio-economic integration, particularly benefiting the people of western Odisha. The Commerce & Transport Department of the Government of Odisha has reiterated its commitment to expanding regional air networks and strengthening infrastructure to realise the vision of “Aviation for All” and achieve Odisha’s goal of accelerated, inclusive growth. The Bhubaneswar–Jharsuguda flight service is further supported by Viability Gap Funding (VGF) under the New Destination Policy.
