Odisha CM Hints at Assembly Expansion to 200 Seats | Delimitation & New Lok Seva Bhawan
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has hinted at a potential delimitation exercise that could significantly reshape Odisha’s political landscape.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a new administrative complex, Majhi suggested that the Legislative Assembly’s strength may increase from the current 147 members to nearly 200 in the future.
The new Assembly building, designed to accommodate around 300 legislators, reflects long‑term planning for governance and representation.
The project, spread across 71.13 acres, will include a modern Lok Seva Bhawan and Assembly building modelled on the Central Vista framework, with an estimated cost of Rs 3,623 crore.
Majhi emphasised that the infrastructure is being developed with a vision spanning 50 to 100 years, ensuring readiness for expanded representation and administrative needs.
The Lok Seva Bhawan will feature advanced facilities, including modern offices and underground parking, aimed at enhancing efficiency in governance.
His remarks have sparked discussions on the political and administrative implications of delimitation, with experts noting that increased representation could reshape party strategies and strengthen democratic participation in Odisha.
