Odisha CM Confirms 40 Active Maoists, Resolution Targeted by 2026

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly that around 40 active Maoists are currently operating in small groups across six districts—Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Bolangir, and Bargarh.

He emphasised that their presence has significantly declined over the years due to intensified security operations and coordinated efforts with the Centre.

In the past five years, security forces have neutralised 48 Maoists, arrested 78, and facilitated the surrender of 82 cadres. Notably, 25 Maoists were eliminated in 2025 alone.

The Centre has categorised Kandhamal as an “Other LWE-affected district” under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme, while eight districts remain under the “Legacy and Thrust” category.

The CM assured that the state government is committed to resolving the Maoist issue by March 31, 2026, in line with the Centre’s timeline.
