Odisha CM Calls for Police Reforms to Boost Conviction Rates and Public Trust

Bhubaneswar, Nov 19: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed Superintendents of Police (SPs) across Odisha to prioritise conviction rates, adopt technology-driven policing, and ensure citizen-friendly service.

Speaking at the state-level conference of District Collectors and SPs, Majhi emphasised that law and order must remain the government’s top priority to foster development and attract investment.

The CM outlined eight key directives, including establishing dedicated Investigation and Prosecution wings, mandatory registration of complaints, regular station visits by SPs, zero tolerance for corruption, and training officers on new laws such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

He also urged police officials to avoid harassing innocents and to leverage technology to stay ahead of criminals.

Majhi reiterated his government’s vision of making Odisha Naxal-free by 2026, while intensifying efforts against the narcotics trade, land mafia, and economic crimes.

He called for enhanced road safety measures, coastal security coordination with the Coast Guard and Navy, and prompt resolution of minor disputes to prevent disruptions in infrastructure projects.

Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja highlighted modernisation initiatives, including increased manpower and equipment, while Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrata Sahu described Collectors and SPs as “two sides of the same coin.” Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania stressed collaborative policing and technology-based monitoring systems.

The conference concluded with a unified call for strengthening Odisha Police through modernisation, integrity, and efficiency, aligning with the state’s broader vision of peace, security, and development.
