Odisha CM Assures Fertilizer Sufficiency Ahead of Kharif Season

Bhubaneswar, Sept 11 — In a proactive move to support farmers ahead of the Kharif season, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conducted a comprehensive review of the state’s fertiliser supply at Lok Seva Bhavan.

The CM assured that there is no shortage of fertilisers, with over 11.66 lakh metric tonnes currently available—exceeding the state’s seasonal requirement of 9.55 lakh metric tonnes.

Majhi emphasised the importance of transparent and timely distribution through Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) and Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPCS). District collectors have been directed to monitor distribution closely and reallocate seized stock to farmers without delay.

To curb malpractice, the CM warned of strict action against black marketing, hoarding, and counterfeit fertilisers.

He also encouraged crop diversification and integrated farming, particularly the cultivation of oilseeds and pulses, aligning with the state’s broader agricultural goals.

The meeting was attended by Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, and other senior officials from the agriculture and development departments.

Majhi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to farmer welfare through initiatives like the Samruddha Krushak Yojana and support for flood-affected regions.
