Odisha CM Approves Rs 14 Crore Cultural Revival Project to Honor 75 Legendary Icons by 2026
In a sweeping move to celebrate Odisha’s rich cultural and historical tapestry, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has greenlit a Rs 14 crore initiative to install statues of 75 legendary figures across the state by the end of 2026.
Spearheaded by the Department of Odia Language, Literature & Culture, the project aims to immortalise icons from literature, politics, tribal movements, and social reform.
Statues will be strategically placed in public spaces, educational institutions, and heritage sites across districts, fostering pride and identity among Odia citizens.
The selection includes revered poets like Gangadhar Meher and Upendra Bhanja, freedom fighters such as Veer Surendra Sai and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and reformers like Bhima Bhoi and Ramadevi.
District-wise allocations reflect Odisha’s diverse legacy: Puri will honour Bhakta Maneisahu and Atal Bihari Vajpayee; Khurda will feature Vishwanath Das, Kuntala Kumari Sabat, and Veer Sido Murmu; while Sambalpur, Ganjam, and Mayurbhanj will showcase figures like Gopabandhu Das, Bhagaban Sahu, and Raghunath Murmu.
This cultural revival aligns with the state’s broader mission to preserve heritage and inspire future generations through visible tributes to its great sons and daughters.
