Odisha CM Announces Big Stipend Hike for PG Students in Traditional Medicine

Bhubaneswar, Dec 15: In a major boost to traditional medicine education, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a significant hike in stipends for postgraduate students in government Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medical colleges across the state.

The revised stipend structure, effective from January 1, 2026, will also be applied retrospectively from August 1, 2025.

Under the new rates, first-year PG students will receive Rs 48,000 per month (up from Rs 31,000), second-year students Rs 52,000 (up from Rs 32,000), and third-year students Rs 55,000 (up from Rs 33,000). This translates to increases of 55%, 62%, and 67%, respectively.

House surgeons in these colleges will also benefit, with their monthly stipend raised from Rs 17,000 to Rs 30,000. The decision is expected to benefit around 120 PG students currently enrolled in these courses.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the move reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services in the state while motivating young professionals to focus on academics and patient care.

Officials believe the enhanced stipends will improve the overall quality of healthcare delivery in Odisha.
