Odisha CM Announces ₹74.78 Cr Welfare Package for Kendu Leaf Workers
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has unveiled a major relief package worth Rs 74.78 crore for kendu leaf pluckers, binders, and seasonal staff across Odisha.
The package includes a 10 paise hike per kerry (20 leaves) and a 20 paise hike per phal (40 leaves), amounting to Rs 10.78 crore.
In addition, kendu leaf pluckers (tolaali) will receive a 25% bonus, while binders (bandhali) and seasonal staff will get a 5% incentive, together accounting for Rs 64 crore.
Officials said the move will directly benefit lakhs of families in rural and tribal regions who depend on kendu leaf collection for their livelihood.
The CM has directed immediate implementation so that workers receive the benefits ahead of the upcoming collection season.
