Odisha Chief Secretary Reviews Energy Sector: Push for Affordable Power & Infra Upgrades
Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Anu Garg chaired her first high-level review meeting of the Energy Department and its public sector undertakings, setting a clear roadmap for affordable, reliable, and uninterrupted power supply across Odisha.
The meeting emphasised strengthening generation, transmission, and distribution networks, while accelerating project timelines and improving coordination among departments.
Garg highlighted the state’s renewable energy potential, urging fast-tracking of Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) and Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV) systems.
Key infrastructure upgrades include the 765/400 KV Bishnupur substation, new transmission lines, and creation of 220 KV ring networks in strategic regions such as Bhubaneswar, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda-Sambalpur, and Berhampur-Baliguda.
Officials were directed to minimise transmission losses and ensure hotline maintenance with strict safety compliance.
Technology-driven reforms are also on the agenda, with full automation of substations under the STAMS project targeted within a year.
Major projects will be integrated with the PM GatiShakti framework, aligning Odisha’s energy vision with the national goal of “Viksit Bharat.”
The review concluded with a commitment to sustainable, technology-enabled solutions that meet rising industrial and consumer demand, reinforcing Odisha’s ambition for a Samruddha Odisha powered by clean and reliable energy.
