Odisha Cabinet Approves Rs 3,390 Crore for River Linking & Swachha Odisha Schemes
Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: In a landmark move aimed at transforming Odisha’s water management and urban sanitation landscape, the state Cabinet led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved two major schemes with a combined outlay of Rs 3,390 crore.
The Intrastate River Linking Scheme, allocated Rs 1,790 crore over five years (2025–26 to 2029–30), seeks to connect water-surplus river basins with water-deficient regions.
The initiative is designed to enhance drought resilience, mitigate flood risks, and boost agricultural productivity.
Six major projects will be executed under this scheme, including the Katra Link, Vansadhara–Rushikulya Intra-Link, Hiradharabati Flood Flow Channel, Bahuda Tampara Link, Ong–Suktel Garland Canal, and Telengiri–Upper Kolab PSP.
Complementing this is the Swachha Odisha Scheme, approved with a budget of Rs 1,600 crore. Targeting urban cleanliness, the scheme aims to support Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) by bridging funding gaps and achieving full saturation across sanitation verticals.
It will consolidate various sanitation efforts into a unified framework, streamlining implementation and monitoring while aligning with the national Swachh Bharat initiative.
These approvals reflect the state government’s strategic push toward sustainable infrastructure and improved quality of life for citizens.
