Odisha Budget 2026–27: Mohan Government Highlights Odia Identity, Infrastructure, and Welfare
Bhubaneswar: Presenting a two‑hour budget speech, the Odisha government placed strong emphasis on Odia identity, cultural heritage, and inclusive development.
Finance Minister Mohan announced a Rs 374 crore allocation to promote Odia language and culture, including a world‑class museum in Bhubaneswar and a Mayurbhanj Chhau Academy in Baripada.
Infrastructure received a major push with over Rs 15,000 crore earmarked for new roads and national highways, Rs 450 crore for railway projects, Rs 900 crore for sports facilities, and Rs 500 crore for tourism infrastructure, including a world tourism centre in Puri.
Social welfare schemes dominated the budget, with significant allocations to women and child welfare programs.
The newly launched Kanya Sumangala Yojana aims to empower girls, while flagship schemes like Subhadra (Rs 10,145 crore), Gopabandhu Jan Aarogya Yojana (Rs 6,309 crore), and Nutrition Mission (Rs 732 crore) underline the government’s focus on health and social security.
Agriculture and allied sectors also saw new initiatives, including a proposed agriculture university in Mayurbhanj, support for fisheries and dairy under the blue and white revolutions, and a 24‑hour veterinary hospital at Phulnakhara.
Education and technology were not left behind, with four new universities planned across Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Jharsuguda, alongside Rs 23 crore for an AI mission.
The budget reflects a blend of cultural pride, infrastructure expansion, and welfare‑driven governance, aiming to balance tradition with modern growth.
