Odisha Budget 2026–27: 4 New Universities, 5 Medical Colleges Announced
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi presented a Rs 3,10,000 crore budget for the financial year 2026–27, placing strong emphasis on education and healthcare infrastructure.
The government announced the establishment of four new universities in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Jharsuguda, fulfilling Bhadrak’s long‑standing demand for a university after more than two decades.
Healthcare received a major boost with plans for five new medical colleges, including Ayurvedic institutions in Gajapati, Rayagada, and Malkangiri, and Homoeopathy colleges in Nayagarh and Nuapada.
A Pharma Park is also proposed in Nayagarh to strengthen pharmaceutical research and production.
The budget promises free and quality healthcare for every family, with investments in modern medical equipment, free medicines, diagnostic facilities, and expanded primary health centres.
The ruling BJP government highlighted these measures as fulfilment of election promises, contrasting with the previous BJD government’s record of not establishing a university in Bhadrak during its 24 years in power.
This budget signals a strategic push toward building a healthier and more educated Odisha, while addressing regional aspirations and strengthening grassroots infrastructure.
