Odisha Braces for Turbulent Weather: IMD Issues Yellow and Orange Alerts Across Districts

Odisha heavy rainfall alert

Bhubaneswar, June 24(OT Webdesk): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert across 27 districts of Odisha, cautioning residents about impending thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph.

For the northern districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar, an orange warning is in effect, with predictions of extremely heavy rainfall.

The warnings coincide with the formation of a cyclonic circulation over West Bengal, expected to trigger widespread rain and stronger winds—reaching up to 55 kmph—particularly along coastal Odisha from June 24 to 26.

Officials have warned of potential flash floods, transportation disruptions, and waterlogging, especially in low-lying zones.

Citizens are strongly advised to stay indoors during lightning activity and avoid unnecessary travel.

In light of these developments, Odisha’s disaster response teams have been placed on high alert to manage any emergencies that may arise during the next five days of intensified monsoon activity.
