Bhubaneswar, June 18(OT Webdesk): The Regional Meteorological Centre has sounded an Orange Alert for seven districts in Odisha, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours.
The affected districts are Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur.
The weather department anticipates that the intense showers may cause flooding in low-lying areas, traffic congestion, and waterlogging.
A Yellow Alert has also been issued for seven other districts—Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Bargarh, Sonepur, and Boudh—with predictions of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
Bhubaneswar has already witnessed continuous downpours since Monday evening, disrupting normal life and transportation. Authorities have advised caution and urged residents to stay indoors where possible.
Fishermen have been strictly warned against venturing into the sea as rough to very rough sea conditions are expected.
This adverse weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure area forming over the region, which is likely to trigger widespread monsoonal activity until June 20, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
