Bhubaneswar,(Orissa Today), May 15: disha is bracing for a weather rollercoaster, as thunderstorm activity remains on the horizon, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a return of heatwave conditions for a two-day stint starting May 18.
The IMD’s latest bulletin warns of thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph in various districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Puri until Thursday morning. Additionally, Sundargarh, Angul, and other districts are also likely to experience thunderstorm activity during this period.
A yellow warning has been issued for several districts, indicating a heightened risk of thunderstorms with lightning over the next 24 hours.
Looking ahead, May 18 could see heatwave conditions in Nuapada, Balangir, and other districts, with the possibility of thunderstorms persisting in certain areas. On May 19, a yellow warning for heatwave conditions extends to several districts, coinciding with thunderstorm activity in other regions.
South Odisha might experience light to moderate rainfall over the following days, offering some relief from the heat. However, temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next four days, with Bhubaneswar possibly hitting 40 degrees Celsius and Balangir, Jharsuguda, and other areas soaring to 44-45 degrees Celsius.
