(OT Webdesk )Odisha is bracing for a spell of intense rainfall as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy showers on May 27 and 28.
A low-pressure system forming over the west-central and northern Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify within two days, bringing widespread rainfall to the state.
Southern districts such as Malkangiri, Rayagada, and Koraput are predicted to experience heavy to very heavy downpours, while thunderstorms and Kalbaisakhi storms (Nor’westers) may impact 26 districts.
The IMD has issued yellow alerts, warning residents of possible strong winds and lightning.
Meteorologists suggest that this rain spell will aid the progress of the southwest monsoon, which is likely to reach Kerala within 2–3 days and subsequently cover Odisha under favorable conditions.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions as Odisha prepares for volatile weather conditions.
