Odisha Athletes Shine with 34 Medals at Special Olympics Bharat Athletics

Odisha’s athletes delivered a stellar performance at the Special Olympics Bharat National Athletics Championships, held at Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Haryana, from February 2 to 6, 2026.

The state contingent secured an impressive 34 medals, showcasing both talent and determination.

The women’s team bagged 7 gold, 8 silver, and 3 bronze medals, while the men’s team earned 6 gold, 3 silver, and 7 bronze medals.

Among the standout performers were Harshita Priyadarshini Tripathi, who clinched bronze in the 50m and 100m races, and Sagupta Sahin, who struck gold in the 200m race, long jump, and relay.

Bhimsen Rana added to the tally with gold in Lambdian and silver in the 200m race, while Suvendu Baiga impressed with gold in long jump and bronze in relay.

Odisha Sports Secretary Sachin Ramachandra Yadav, Director Y Vijay, and Special Olympics Odisha officials extended their congratulations to the athletes.

The victorious team received a warm welcome at Bhubaneswar airport, where GM Bijay Rout honoured them with floral garlands on behalf of the Sports Department.

This triumph not only highlights Odisha’s growing presence in athletics but also underscores the spirit of inclusivity and excellence fostered by the Special Olympics movement.
