Odisha Assembly Paralysis Deepens Over SCB Fire Row

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly remained paralysed for the fourth consecutive day as opposition parties intensified their demand for the resignation of the Health Minister following the devastating fire at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

The House witnessed chaotic scenes with Congress and BJD legislators storming the well, raising slogans, and disrupting Question Hour and Zero Hour.

BJP members attempted to raise constituency issues but were drowned out amid the uproar.

Opposition MLAs displayed posters, shouted slogans such as “Ram Naam Satya Hai”, and even climbed onto the reporters’ table, dragging chairs toward the Speaker’s podium.

In response to the blaze, the government suspended four fire officers and ordered two separate inquiries. However, opposition leaders accused the ruling party of negligence and demanded accountability.

BJP leaders countered, alleging that the opposition was politicising the tragedy, pointing out that the government acted swiftly within two days of the incident.

Speaker Surama Padhy convened all‑party meetings to resolve the impasse, but consensus remained elusive, leaving legislative business at a standstill.
