Odisha Assembly Faces Fifth Day of Disruption Over Farmers’ Issues
The Odisha Assembly witnessed yet another day of turmoil as protests over farmers’ concerns forced repeated adjournments during the ongoing budget session.
For the fifth consecutive day, proceedings were stalled as opposition members stormed the Speaker’s podium, raising slogans and demanding immediate discussion on agricultural challenges.
Congress legislators intensified their protest by wearing black headbands, accusing the government of exploiting farmers. The BJD also joined in, highlighting problems with paddy procurement, mandi mismanagement, and harvesting delays.
Speaker Surama Padhy attempted to restore order but was compelled to adjourn the House twice—first until 11:30 AM and later until 4:00 PM—as the uproar continued.
The BJP, meanwhile, criticised both Congress and BJD for obstructing legislative business, labelling them “anti‑development.” With the Question Hour disrupted for the fourth day in a row, the Assembly remains gridlocked, reflecting the deep divisions over how to address farmers’ grievances.
