Odisha Assembly Disrupted Over SCB Medical Fire Incident
The Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed repeated disruptions as opposition parties demanded the resignation of the Health Minister following the recent fire at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Congress and BJD members staged protests both inside and outside the House, accusing the government of negligence and demanding accountability.
The deadlock has persisted since March 17, despite attempts to resolve the issue through an all‑party meeting.
BJP leader Tankadhar Tripathy dismissed the protests as politically motivated, highlighting that both the Chief Minister and Health Minister visited the hospital immediately after the incident.
He further noted that two committees have been formed, and a judicial inquiry is underway with a fixed timeline.
Tripathy questioned the opposition’s demand for resignation, citing precedents where ministers in earlier governments did not step down under similar circumstances.
He assured that strict action would be taken based on the inquiry’s findings.
The Assembly remains locked in confrontation, with the opposition pressing for resignation while the government insists on waiting for the judicial inquiry’s outcome.
