Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: Proceedings in the Odisha Assembly were disrupted on Saturday as opposition members from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress staged protests over the state’s law and order situation and farmers’ issues. The House witnessed repeated disruptions as the opposition accused the government of failing to protect farmers’ interests and maintain law and order.
As soon as the Assembly convened for the day, opposition legislators were on their feet, raising slogans against the government. They stormed into the well of the House, alleging that farmers across the state were suffering due to poor paddy procurement policies and inadequate financial support. The BJD MLAs demanded immediate action to address the grievances of farmers, who they claimed were struggling to get fair prices for their produce.
Simultaneously, opposition members criticized the rising crime rate in Odisha, blaming the government for its inability to ensure public safety. The protests led to a chaotic atmosphere in the House, forcing Speaker to intervene in an attempt to restore order. However, amid the continued uproar, legislative business remained stalled for a significant portion of the session.
