Odisha Assembly Adjourned on March 16 for Rajya Sabha Polling

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Legislative Assembly will remain adjourned on March 16, 2026, as the House prepares to host the Rajya Sabha elections.

Speaker Surama Padhy announced that the scheduled business for the day will be shifted to later dates to ensure the smooth conduct of polling.

Questions originally listed for March 16 will now be taken up on March 17. Meanwhile, demands for grants pertaining to the School & Mass Education and Higher Education Departments have been rescheduled for March 20.

The Rajya Sabha elections will be held between 9 am and 4 pm within the Assembly premises.

Political parties, including the BJP, BJD, and Congress, have issued whips to their legislators, directing them to remain in Bhubaneswar during this crucial period.

The Assembly Secretariat has clarified that the office will function on Saturday and Sunday to accommodate legislative work during the ongoing budget session.

This adjournment underscores the significance of the Rajya Sabha polls, which are expected to see intense political manoeuvring among the major parties.
