Odisha Assembly Adjourned Amid Opposition Protest Over SCB Fire Tragedy
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes today as opposition members stormed into the well of the House, forcing Speaker Pramila Mallick to adjourn proceedings until 11:30 AM.
The protest was sparked by the recent fire tragedy at SCB Medical College and Hospital, which claimed several lives.
Opposition legislators staged a symbolic “bier” procession inside the Assembly premises, chanting “Ram Naam Satya Hai” to dramatise their demand for accountability.
They accused the state government of negligence and demanded the resignation of the Health Minister.
Treasury bench members strongly objected to the demonstration, leading to heated exchanges across the floor.
Despite repeated appeals for order, the Speaker was compelled to adjourn the House, halting Question Hour.
The incident underscores rising political tensions in Odisha as the government faces mounting criticism over healthcare safety and crisis management.
