Odisha Assembly Adjourned After Opposition Uproar Over SCB Fire Incident

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes on Tuesday as opposition members stormed the well of the House, demanding an immediate discussion on the recent SCB Medical College fire incident.

The session, which resumed after a three‑day break, was disrupted during Question Hour when members of the BJD and Congress raised slogans accusing the government of negligence.

Speaker Surama Padhy attempted to restore order but was forced to adjourn proceedings until 12:00 noon as the commotion intensified.

The opposition has insisted that the government address accountability issues surrounding the tragedy, which has sparked widespread concern across the state.

The disruption prevented any legislative business from being taken up in the morning session.

Later in the day, the House is scheduled to consider expenditure demands of the Steel and Mines Transport Department, though further protests are anticipated.
