Odisha Allocates Rs 252 Crore for 58 New Cold Storages to Boost Agriculture
Odisha is set to significantly expand its cold chain infrastructure with the announcement of 58 new cold storages across sub-divisions, backed by an allocation of Rs 252 crore.
Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan shared the details in the Assembly, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening preservation facilities for farmers and traders.
Currently, the state operates 35 cold storages—33 privately run and 2 government-managed. Over the past decade, 26 new facilities have been constructed, of which 22 remain functional while 4 are non-operational.
In total, Odisha boasts 20 government and 78 private cold storages, reflecting a steady expansion in agricultural storage capacity.
The new initiative aims to reduce the wastage of perishable goods and improve market access for farmers.
Additionally, applications have been received to operationalise 15 new cold storages and revive 2 non-functional ones, further enhancing the state’s agricultural infrastructure.
This move underscores Odisha’s focus on modernising its food preservation systems and supporting rural economies through better storage and distribution networks.
