Odisha Activates Cyclone Preparedness Model Ahead of Bay of Bengal Storm
Bhubaneswar, October 24, 2025 — With a potential cyclone brewing over the Bay of Bengal, the Odisha government has swung into action, activating its disaster-ready model to safeguard lives and infrastructure.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari announced that all departments are on high alert, emphasising the state’s preparedness to tackle any emergency.
“Odisha is a disaster-prone state, and we are ready to handle any adverse situation,” said Pujari, highlighting that departments including Energy, Health, and Agriculture have been instructed to remain vigilant.
The Energy Department has been tasked with ensuring the swift restoration of electricity in case of damage to power lines.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall across southern, interior, and western districts due to the developing low-pressure system.
District administrations have been mobilised to oversee evacuations, distribute relief supplies, and maintain on-ground safety.
While no decision has been made regarding the cancellation of government employees’ leave, the Minister noted that the cyclone is expected between October 28 and 29, leaving room for further assessment.
Odisha’s disaster management framework—praised for its early warning systems, resilient shelters, and community training—continues to serve as a model for effective crisis response. Citizens are urged to follow official updates and refrain from spreading rumours.
