Odia Migrant Worker Dies in Telangana, Highlights Ongoing Migration Crisis
A tragic incident has struck Nuapada district of Odisha as Parshuram Bag, a 46‑year‑old migrant worker from Budhikomna village, died of a heart attack while working at Jaya Chikis Co. Pvt. Ltd. in Mangalpalli village, Ibrahimpatnam mandal, Telangana.
Family members revealed that Bag, who was diabetic, collapsed during duty hours. He had migrated to Telangana in search of a livelihood after failing to secure employment locally.
His sudden demise has left behind his wife, children, and younger brother.
Following a post‑mortem at a government hospital, his body is being transported back to his native village.
Despite Nuapada being declared a “dadan‑free district,” large‑scale migration continues. Official records list only 2,026 registered migrant workers, but intellectuals estimate that between 40,000 and 50,000 workers from the district are employed outside Odisha.
The incident underscores the challenges faced by Odia migrant workers, including a lack of timely medical support and the risks of working far from home.
