
Odia Medical Student Gang-Raped in Durgapur: 3 Arrested, SIT Probes Case
Durgapur, West Bengal — A second-year Odia medical student studying at Durgapur Medical College has allegedly been gang-raped, triggering swift action from both West Bengal Police and the Odisha government.
Based on eyewitness accounts, five suspects were identified. Three of them were arrested from the Paranangunj forest area using mobile tracking. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently interrogating the accused, while drone-assisted search operations are underway to locate the remaining two.
The Odisha government has dispatched a two-member team from Balasore district to meet the victim’s family, assuring full support. The team conveyed that the state stands firmly with the survivor and her loved ones.
Meanwhile, SIT officials are reviewing CCTV footage from the private medical college and assessing the security arrangements in the jungle-adjacent campus.
The incident has sparked political outrage. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating the state needs a leader like Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath to ensure law and order.
