Odia Film Preservation Workshop 2025: Odisha CM Launches Revival Drive for Regional Cinema
Bhubaneswar, Nov 12 — Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the 10th Film Preservation and Restoration Workshop India – 2025 at the Odisha Crafts Museum (Kalabhoomi), marking a cultural milestone in the state’s cinematic journey.
Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman graced the event, while Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan joined virtually, praising Odisha’s rich film legacy.
The three-day workshop, organized by the Odisha Government in collaboration with the Film Heritage Foundation (FHF) and the International Federation of Film Archives, aims to empower local talent and preserve Odia cinema’s heritage.
CM Majhi announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FHF to restore iconic Odia films like Konkalata (1973) and Maya Miriga (1984), emphasizing that “film conservation is a cultural responsibility.”
The event also honored Robin Baker with the Outstanding Film Heritage Award and recognized Sanjay Pattnaik and Surya Deo as Champions of Film Heritage.
Prominent personalities including Siddhanta Mahapatra, Prasanta Nanda, and Ghanashyam Mahapatra attended, reinforcing Odisha’s commitment to becoming a hub for cinematic conservation.
