Odia Comedian Mr. Gulua Files Complaint Over Rs 1 Crore Extortion Threats
Popular Odia comedian and YouTuber Mr Gulua, whose real name is Ashis Kumar Das, has lodged a formal complaint with Balianta police after receiving alleged blackmail and extortion threats through social media.
In a video posted online, Gulua appeared visibly distressed as he revealed that unidentified individuals demanded either Rs 1 crore or Rs 50 lakh.
The threats reportedly included defaming him on social media, physically assaulting him, or implicating him in false cases if he failed to comply.
The comedian, hailing from Brahmagiri in Puri district, has built a massive following with over 1.4 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, known for humorous Odia comedy sketches and viral dialogues.
Police confirmed receipt of the complaint but stated that no arrests have been made so far. Officials acknowledged the growing risks faced by regional content creators amid rising cybercrime in India.
However, some sources suggested the possibility that the video might have been uploaded as a prank or to gain popularity.
Authorities assured that the truth will emerge after a thorough investigation.
