Nuapada: Youth Suffers Severe Burns After Suicide Attempt on Transformer

Khariar Road town in Nuapada district witnessed a shocking incident when a 35‑year‑old man from Bihar, identified as Chandan Kumar, attempted suicide by climbing a transformer.

In the process, he came into contact with an 11‑kV electric line, sustaining critical burn injuries.

According to reports, Kumar had been living in a rented house with his wife.

Frequent quarrels had strained their relationship, and his wife had recently left him, leaving him deeply distressed.

Alerted electricity staff quickly disconnected the power supply, while police led by IIC Pradeep Dharua and fire service personnel rushed to the spot.

Kumar was rescued in a severely injured state and shifted to Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors confirmed extensive burns.

Later, his relatives arrived and took him back to Bihar for further treatment.

Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including marital disputes and his living arrangements.
