Nitish Kumar Sworn In as Bihar Chief Minister for Record 10th Time

Patna, November 20, 2025: Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record 10th time at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan, marking a significant political milestone for the Janata Dal (United) leader.

The grand ceremony, held at 11:30 am, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several chief ministers from NDA‑ruled states.

The oath‑taking follows the NDA’s sweeping victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, where the alliance secured 202 out of 243 seats. BJP emerged as the largest party with 89 seats, while JD(U) won 85.

The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) secured 19 seats, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) won 5, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha bagged 4.

Nitish Kumar resigned from the outgoing government on Wednesday before staking a claim to form the new NDA government. He was unanimously elected leader of both JD(U) and the NDA in Bihar. BJP leaders Samrat Choudhury and Vijay Kumar Sinha will continue as deputy chief ministers.

A total of 18 ministers, including the two deputy CMs, are expected to join the new cabinet. Discussions are underway regarding portfolio distribution and the selection of the next Speaker of the Bihar Assembly.

This historic swearing‑in underscores Nitish Kumar’s enduring influence in Bihar politics and sets the stage for the NDA’s governance in the state.
