Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 11: A youth who fell into a water body at Tapang stone quarry in Odisha’s Khurda district four days ago remains missing, prompting ongoing rescue efforts. On Thursday, a specially designed robot from NIT Rourkela was deployed in the rescue operation at Bada Saunlia under Tapang police limits.
The incident occurred when four students from a Pahala-based educational institute visited Tapang Green Lake to shoot a video reel on Monday. One of them slipped into the quarry while filming near the lake’s edge.
In a brave attempt to rescue his friend, Om Prakash Rath jumped into the water but subsequently went missing himself. Despite efforts by fire services, using advanced waterproof cameras and aided by the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and National Disaster Rapid Action Force, there has been no positive outcome in locating Om Prakash.
The NIT Rourkela robot, designed for such operations, is now engaged in scanning the 100-feet-deep quarry meticulously to aid in the search and rescue efforts.
“We are conducting a thorough search of the area,” stated an official from NIT Rourkela, emphasizing the comprehensive approach taken to locate the missing youth.
