Nine Suspected Bangladeshi Infiltrators Detained Along Bhadrak Coast
Bhadrak, Odisha, Dec 3: In a major overnight operation, Odisha Police detained nine individuals suspected to be Bangladeshi infiltrators along the Bhadrak coastline.
The drive, personally supervised by Superintendent of Police Manoj Rout, targeted villages under Basudevpur and Tihidi police station limits after intelligence inputs indicated illegal entry through the sea route.
Eight suspects were picked up from Basudevpur block, while one was detained in Tihidi.
Police sources revealed that the individuals had been living under false identities, working as migrant labourers, masons, or running small businesses while concealing their nationality.
SP Rout emphasized that coastal security remains a priority, with verification of citizenship documents underway. The detainees claim to be Indian citizens, but their papers are under detailed scrutiny.
Authorities noted that several coastal villages—including Basudevpur, Tihidi, Chandbali, Dhamra, Chudamani, Kaithkhola, and Chandinipal—have reportedly become safe havens for infiltrators.
Similar concerns have surfaced in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts.
The crackdown is part of nationwide efforts to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the interest of internal security.
Police confirmed that further operations are likely in other coastal pockets of Odisha in the coming days.
