Nine boys from Bihar and Odisha rescued from trafficking in Kolkata

Kolkata, Sep 18 (UNI) In a joint operation by the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights and Kolkata Police, nine boys from Bihar and Odisha were rescued from being trafficked for menial jobs in shops, restaurants, and eateries, official sources said today.

The commission and city police conducted a joint raid in the posh New Market area of central Kolkata, rescuing these teenage boys and a few pre-teens who were lured or sold by traffickers in Bihar and Odisha.
Of the nine boys, eight were from Bihar and one from Odisha. They were recently brought to the city, rescued, and placed in a home for rehabilitation, sources said.

Official sources added that the boys were either lured with promises of better food and shelter or purchased from their parents by traffickers with assurances of jobs.
Sources said the boys either find menial jobs in eateries or are sold elsewhere for high prices to traffickers.
The commission and police are now trying to trace their addresses to facilitate rehabilitation and reunite them with their respective families.
