Negligence Alleged After Kandhamal Student Dies from Swallowed Safety Pin
Kandhamal, October 28, 2025: A devastating incident at Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya in Dhobatota has sparked outrage across Kandhamal district after eighth-grade student Tushar Mishra died from complications caused by accidentally swallowing a safety pin.
According to reports, Tushar removed the pin from a notice board and swallowed it unintentionally while distracted. He promptly informed school authorities and submitted a written request to go home.
However, the school allegedly delayed notifying his family until 4 PM, despite repeated pleas.
His parents rushed him to Phulbani District Hospital, followed by Berhampur Medical College, and finally to SCB Medical College in Cuttack, where he succumbed during treatment.
The grieving family has accused the school of gross negligence, claiming that timely medical intervention could have saved their son. They are demanding a review of CCTV footage and strict action against the responsible staff. A formal police complaint is reportedly underway.
This tragedy has reignited concerns over school safety protocols in Odisha. Locals recall a similar incident in Salaguda months ago, where students suffered eye injuries due to teacher negligence involving glue.
Tushar, described as a bright student and the only child of his parents, leaves behind a mourning family and a community demanding accountability.
