Naveen Patnaik Urges Govt Action for Odia Workers in Middle East
Bhubaneswar, March 10: Leader of the Opposition in Odisha and Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik has urged both the Centre and the Odisha government to take immediate steps to ensure the safe return of Odia citizens stranded in the Middle East.
Patnaik’s appeal comes in the wake of escalating tensions following joint U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran that began on February 28, 2026.
With thousands of Odia migrant workers employed across Gulf nations in construction, hospitality, healthcare, and service sectors, families back home are increasingly anxious about their safety.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Patnaik stressed the need for close coordination between state and central authorities to provide timely assistance and, if necessary, organise evacuation measures.
Political leaders and community groups have also echoed the call, urging proactive monitoring and contingency planning to safeguard Odia workers abroad.
