In a rare public address, Naveen Patnaik, the former Chief Minister of Odisha and president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), defended his close aide VK Pandian amidst growing criticism within the party.
Patnaik praised Pandian’s contributions to the state and the party, urging members to focus on unity and discipline as the BJD navigates its new role as the opposition following its 2024 electoral defeat.
Patnaik also expressed disapproval of party leaders holding unofficial meetings outside the party headquarters, emphasizing the need for transparency.
Additionally, he clarified the status of Prabhat Tripathy, a former BJD member expelled for his involvement in the 2014 chit fund scam, distancing the party from the controversy.
As the BJD works to rebuild its image, Patnaik’s leadership remains pivotal in addressing internal dissent and preparing for future challenges.
