Naveen Patnaik Slams BJP Govt, BJD Gears Up for Winter Session Showdown
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) legislature party convened at Sankha Bhawan under the leadership of Opposition Leader Naveen Patnaik ahead of the Odisha Assembly’s winter session.
Patnaik launched a sharp attack on the 18‑month‑old BJP government, alleging a collapse of law and order and rising insecurity among women.
Citing recent atrocities against women in Keonjhar Sadar, Khurda, Baghamari, and SCB Medical College in Cuttack, Patnaik described the incidents as “extremely painful” and evidence of governance failure.
He also condemned communal riots in Cuttack during Durga Puja, calling them a blot on Odisha’s legacy of peace and harmony.
Patnaik accused the government of neglecting farmers by delaying fertiliser supply and halting loan assistance to Mission Shakti self‑help groups. He branded the regime “anti‑farmer, anti‑women, and anti‑youth,” pointing to irregularities in recruitment exams that have frustrated Odisha’s youth.
Senior BJD leaders echoed these concerns: Deputy Leader of Opposition Prasanna Acharya flagged paddy procurement issues in western Odisha, while Kendrapara MLA Ganeswar Behera highlighted ration card cancellations affecting poor families.
Chief Whip Pramila Mallik outlined the opposition’s strategy and emphasised the importance of tomorrow’s President’s address.
The BJD is set to demand accountability on law and order, crimes against women, communal incidents, farmer distress, employment scams, and ration card cancellations during the upcoming Assembly session.
