Naveen Patnaik congratulates BJP’s Jay Dholkia on Nuapada by-poll victory
Bhubaneswar, Nov 15 (UNI) BJD supremo and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated BJP candidate Jay Dholkia for winning the Nuapada Assembly by-poll.
In a statement, Patnaik said he sincerely hoped that Jay Dholkia would honour the people’s mandate by bringing meaningful development to Nuapada.
Patnaik stated that “elections come and go, but our values and our respect for the people’s faith must always remain.”
He added that it is the responsibility of democratic institutions to uphold the rights of citizens through free and fair elections.
The BJD chief expressed heartfelt gratitude to the supporters of the Biju Janata Dal for their commitment and spirit, describing them as the true strength of the party.
He thanked every leader, worker, and supporter who stood united and worked tirelessly for the BJD during the Nuapada by-poll.
The ruling BJP wrested the Nuapada Assembly seat from the BJD, with Jay Dholkia winning by a record margin of 83,748 votes over his nearest rival, Congress candidate Ghasiram Majhi.
BJD candidate Snehangini Chhuria secured 38,408 votes, finishing third in the contest.
The by-poll was necessitated by the demise of sitting BJD MLA Rajendra Dholkia, who had won the seat four times, once as an Independent and three times as a BJD candidate.
His son, Jay Dholkia, who joined the BJP before the election, retained his father’s seat by polling a record 1,23,867 votes.
Patnaik noted that the BJD has seen many highs and lows, yet its resolve to fight for the people remains unbreakable.
Inspired by Biju Babu, the fighter, Patnaik reaffirmed that the party will continue its struggle for the rights of the people of Odisha.
He also thanked the people of Nuapada who voted for the BJD and appreciated the hard work of party workers during the by-election.
