Nandankanan Zoo Celebrates 66th Foundation Day with New Enclosures and Cub Naming Ceremony
Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park, Odisha’s iconic wildlife destination, marked its 66th Foundation Day with vibrant celebrations and exciting new attractions.
Established in 1960, the zoo has long been a hub for conservation, research, and tourism.
Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia inaugurated several new facilities, including the North-East panorama, a small wild cat enclosure, a glass-fronted leopard enclosure, Asian palm civet and pangolin enclosures, a horticulture unit, and dedicated quarantine centres for herbivores and reptiles.
A highlight of the day was the naming ceremony of newborn cubs—tiger, lion, chimpanzee, and Himalayan black bear—delighting visitors and staff alike.
The event also honoured employees for their outstanding contributions to the zoo’s growth and reputation.
With these additions, Nandankanan Zoo continues to expand its offerings, giving visitors opportunities to witness rare and diverse species while reinforcing its role as a leading centre for wildlife conservation and education.
