Mumbai (OT Webdesk): The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) celebrated its 44th Foundation Day with a special event in Chennai, marking its significant role in India’s rural development. The occasion brought together key policymakers, state officials, banking leaders, and grassroots innovators to reflect on NABARD’s mission and introduce forward-looking initiatives.
The event was attended by Shri M. Nagaraju, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, Government of India; Shri N. Muruganandam, Chief Secretary of the Government of Tamil Nadu; and Shri Shaji K.V., Chairman of NABARD, along with Deputy Managing Directors Shri G. S. Rawat and Shri A. K. Sood. Additionally, managing directors from Indian Bank and Indian Overseas Bank were present, as well as NABARD’s senior leadership and representatives from central and state governments.
A thought-provoking panel discussion titled “Fostering Rural Enterprises for Inclusive Growth” set the tone for the evening, emphasizing the role of rural entrepreneurship in driving job creation, innovation, and equitable development. An exhibition featuring traditional crafts, agricultural products, and rural innovations showcased the vibrant enterprise of India’s villages.
In his address, Shri Shaji K.V., Chairman of NABARD, stated, “NABARD’s 44-year journey is a testament to our unwavering commitment to rural transformation. Our efforts, from improving access to finance and infrastructure to fostering innovation and resilience, have positively impacted millions of lives. As India moves toward inclusive growth, NABARD is ready to take the lead through digital transformation, support for rural enterprises, and mission-driven programs that unlock grassroots potential. Our current focus is to scale high-impact solutions, nurture entrepreneurial ecosystems, and ensure sustainability is at the core of development.”
Shri M. Nagaraju, Secretary of DFS, Government of India, praised NABARD’s lasting impact: “For over four decades, NABARD has been a cornerstone of India’s rural development strategy.
