Nabarangpur Ex‑MLA Sadasiva Pradhani Ostracised Over Daughter’s Inter‑Caste Marriage

Bhubaneswar/Nabarangpur: Former Nabarangpur MLA Sadasiva Pradhani and his family have been expelled from the Bhatra community following his daughter’s inter‑caste marriage. The decision was taken at an urgent meeting of the Akhil Bharatiya Bhatra Vikash Parishad’s district unit, held at the Danteshwari temple in Dhamanaguda.

Community leaders and representatives from ten blocks unanimously imposed a 12‑year social boycott on Pradhani’s family, barring them from participating in social and cultural functions.

The meeting also expelled Ksheersindhu Markam of Ankabeda village for repeated inter‑caste marriages. Prominent leaders including Jagadish Nayak, Jagannath Majhi, Ramadhar Majhi, Purna Majhi, Ananta Sori, Pratap Chandra Nayak, Motiram Samarth, and Naveen Chandra Bhatra were present. Hundreds of community workers joined, reinforcing the collective stance.

This decision has sparked debate over caste practices and social exclusion in Odisha, highlighting the tension between tradition and modern values.
