Mystery Surrounds Lady Constable’s Death in Nuapada Amid Harassment Claims
Nuapada, August 17 (OT Webdesk): The mysterious death of Lady Constable Rukmini Nag has sent shockwaves across Nuapada district, raising serious questions about domestic abuse and institutional accountability.
Her body was discovered near the Nuapada Railway Station under unclear circumstances, shortly after she allegedly circulated a video message indicating suicidal intent.
In the video, Rukmini accused her in-laws—particularly her mother-in-law, Malati Sabar—of persistent harassment, emotional abuse, and financial exploitation. She claimed that despite marrying her husband out of love and registering the marriage legally, she faced relentless pressure and neglect, even during pregnancy.
“I don’t want to die, but after so much torture, I cannot go on living,” she said in the video, which is now central to the police investigation.
Nuapada ASP Ranjit Nayak confirmed that a case of abetment to suicide has been registered. The video is undergoing forensic examination, and the post-mortem report is awaited to determine the exact cause of death.
No statement has been issued yet by Rukmini’s husband or his family. Meanwhile, public outrage is mounting, with citizens demanding a transparent and thorough probe into the constable’s death.
