Bhubaneswar, May 20,( OT Webdesk) – A suspicious drone hovering over the iconic Lingaraj Temple has raised alarm among devotees and authorities, prompting an urgent investigation into the security breach.
The drone, spotted between 5:15 PM and 5:30 PM on Monday, repeatedly circled the temple’s sanctum sanctorum, violating strict regulations that prohibit unauthorised drone operations over heritage sites.
Witnesses, including temple servitors, reported seeing the illuminated device manoeuvring over the temple premises, leading to speculation about its purpose, ranging from surveillance to potential security threats.
Local authorities have launched a probe to identify the drone operator. The Commissionerate Police is analysing CCTV footage from surrounding areas, while cyber experts assist in tracking its flight path.
Officials confirmed that strict legal action will be taken if the perpetrator is found.
“We are treating this incident with utmost seriousness. Unauthorised drone activity over sensitive locations is strictly prohibited, and we are working to ascertain the intent behind this operation,” stated a senior police officer.
Following the incident, security has been reinforced around the temple, with increased patrolling and additional personnel deployed.
