Odisha monsoon arrival

Monsoon Set to Arrive in Odisha in Early June, IMD Predicts Normal Rainfall

May 11, 2025 (OT Webdesk) The eagerly awaited southwest monsoon is set to touch Odisha in the first week of June, according to predictions by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)

With favourable conditions helping the monsoon currents advance, Kerala is expected to see monsoon rains by May 27, 2025.

Historically, the monsoon reaches Odisha around 10 to 12 days after arriving in Kerala. If forecasts hold, Odisha can expect significant rainfall between June 1 and June 10, 2025.

While farmers eagerly await the arrival of monsoon showers, pre-monsoon rains have been scarce, leading to prolonged dry conditions.

Paddy farmers across the state remain hopeful that timely rainfall will ensure a smooth start to their cultivation cycle.

IMD reports indicate that India will receive normal rainfall in the monsoon season, ranging from 96% to 104% of the average precipitation.

However, disparities in rainfall are expected across different regions, with some areas seeing above-normal precipitation while others may experience deficiencies.

The monsoon’s arrival remains crucial for Odisha, where agriculture heavily depends on seasonal rains. With previous years witnessing erratic rainfall, experts believe this year’s monsoon could bring much-needed relief to farmers and water reservoirs.
