Mission Suraksha 2026: Odisha Police Roll Out Massive Security for New Year Festivities
Bhubaneswar, Dec 27: As Odisha gears up to welcome the New Year 2026, the state police have launched Mission Suraksha 2026—a sweeping security initiative designed to ensure safe and joyous celebrations across seven districts.
Under the leadership of DIG Central Range Dr Satyajit Naik, IPS, the operation has mobilised 150 platoons of police personnel, supported by specialised units such as the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Special Tactical Unit (STU), and 179 lifeguards at beaches and water bodies.
High‑definition CCTV networks and drone surveillance are being deployed at high‑traffic areas, including Puri Beach and Kantilo Nilamadhab Temple.
District‑specific strategies include 24/7 marine patrolling at coastal zones, crowd management at major temples, and heightened vigil at eco‑tourism sites like Chilika Lake and Bhitarkanika National Park.
Road safety is a major focus, with a Zero‑Drunk Driving campaign enforced through round‑the‑clock checkpoints, breathalysers, and traffic diversions.
Anti‑harassment squads led by plainclothes women officers will safeguard women and children, while narcotics crackdowns target illegal parties and contraband.
Emergency help desks and control rooms will remain operational throughout the festivities. DIG Naik urged citizens to cooperate with authorities, celebrate responsibly, and respect the law, emphasising that the mission balances joy with safety.
