Minor Girl Missing in Baitarani River Tragedy Near Jajpur
A tragic incident unfolded in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Thursday morning when three siblings were swept away by strong currents while bathing in the Baitarani River near Garedeswar. The children—two brothers and their sister—had gone to the river with their cousin without informing their elders.
Around 11 a.m., the siblings entered the water, unaware of the sudden rise in water level. All three were caught in the current. A nearby relative raised an alarm, prompting local fishermen and residents to rush to the scene.
They managed to rescue a boy and a girl, but one minor girl remains missing.
Fire services personnel launched an immediate search operation, which continues as authorities intensify efforts to locate the child. The rescued children are safe and under medical observation.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the local community. Officials have urged residents to avoid venturing into rivers during unpredictable weather and emphasised the importance of supervising children near water bodies.
